Master’s in Information and Communications Engineering
The Master’s degree programme Information and Communications Engineering builds on and develops skills acquired in the course of a Bachelor’s degree, as Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Telematics, or Informatics. The Master’s degree is international in its orientation and is therefore taught entirely in English. In addition to offering broad fundamental knowledge, the branches of study allow students to gain in-depth qualifications for the development and use of modern information and communication technologies.

The branch of study Autonomous Systems and Robotics
serves to provide an academic education and qualification for professional activities in the development and operation of autonomous systems, which interact with their environment through mechatronic components, as well as covering the required scientific insights and methods. The course content encompasses both sound theoretical principles and practically relevant methodology. In addition, the degree programme offers opportunities to acquire skills in areas of specialisation, for instance in the fields of autonomous robotics, driving assistance systems, self-driving vehicles, networked sensor and actuator technology, networked control technology and intelligent production systems.
Building on fundamental principles from the fields of Sensor and Actuator Technology, Robotics, and Control Systems Engineering students completing the branch of study Autonomous Systems and Robotics are well-equipped to

Students have the opportunity to further enhance their training by selecting areas of specialization in various technical fields:

The branch of study Networks and Communications
serves to provide an academic education and qualification for professional activities in the development and operation of modern information and communication technologies, which require the application of scientific insights and methods.
The course content encompasses both sound theoretical principles and practically relevant methodology. In the first instance, students are taught the principles and methodologies of mobile communications, signal processing, and wireless sensor networks. During the course of the degree programme, students can attend additional lectures, courses, and practical laboratory courses on mobile networks, pervasive computing, signal processing, measurement technology, robotics, image processing, and transportation telematics. The programme is further supplemented by a range of courses from technical informatics (e.g. system security, distributed systems), and technical mathematics (e.g. optimization, stochastics).

The branch of study Business Engineering
serves to provide an academic education and qualification for professional activities which require the blending of technical and economic expertise. The programme content focuses particularly on the application and implementation of scientific insights and methods, with an emphasis on integrated thinking when analysing problems and when developing solutions for challenges in the sphere of economic and business.
Business engineers are furnished with the ability to establish connections between the modes of working and thinking that are specific to the different disciplines, and they are often deployed in companies or organisations which deal with technological solutions from an economic point of view. Business engineers are consequently qualified for professional activities in a very wide range of occupations.
Students acquire well-founded knowledge in the Master’s degree programme’s introductory courses covering the basics of:
- Value Based Management
- Operations Management and Logistics
- Energy Economics: Theory and Policy
Furthermore, they are well-versed in the advanced courses of this branch of study, which reflect the following areas:

Students completing the branch of study Business Engineering are also qualified to scientifically address the subject matter of their chosen technical complement, either in the field of “Autonomous Systems and Robotics” or in the area of “Networks and Communications”.
A Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas:

or a degree programme of equivalent academic value at another post-secondary educational institution.

Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt is located in western Klagenfurt, close to Lake Wörthersee. AAU is one of the few campus universities in Austria. AAU’s Klagenfurt campus covers a total area of around 100,254 m² and includes 51,379 m² of unspoilt green space, meaning that AAU students are able to achieve the perfect balance between study and relaxation. Since 2007, the campus has also been home to Austria’s most contemporary University Sports Institute (USI), which has an area of 1156 m² available for sporting activities. The USI offers a wide range of sports on campus, as well as a variety of sports camps all across Europe.
