The University of Aveiro will award 50 scholarships to international students enrolled in master and integrated master programmes (in this case only students enrolled in the 4th and 5th years are eligible), who have been placed in the best 50 relative positions among all enrolled students, regardless of the programme they are enrolled in.

Admission requirements
• Licenciatura level degree, or legal equivalent in Environmental Engineering or similar;
• Foreign higher education degree in Environmental Engineering or similar awarded on completion of a 1st cycle study programme organised in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this process;
• Foreign higher education degree in Environmental Engineering or similar recognised as satisfying the objectives of the licenciatura degree by the scientifically and statutorily competent body.

Master in Environmental Studies


The objective of this programme is to train professionals and researchers in the domain of the environmental sciences, developing competences in the areas of pollution and environmental management. The programme provides a more comprehensive and holistic view of environmental problems and solutions within a preventive framework. Thus, training professionals to be able to properly intervene in a world continuously changing within a sustainable framework is part of the objectives of the Master in Environmental Studies. Achieving this goal involves training Masters with a solid base in environmental sciences, but also attentive to the society around them and aware for the development scenarios, capable of dialogue with professionals from other areas and with decision-makers.

Promoting active thinking and critical awareness of society in a perspective of sustainable development, through the application of knowledge and scientific and technological innovation for the preservation of the environment.

Moreover, this MSc is designed for the application of new teaching-learning methodologies, supported by technology and innovative communication systems, including the use of e-learning and campus-wide processes, as well as student-centred methods.

This MSc is built on the 44 years of experience of the University of Aveiro training students in the Environmental are since 1975 and responds to the nowadays challenges of a changing world revealing the ability of this university to actively support society needs.

UAVR is a place for research, where innovative products and solutions are developed to contribute to the advance of science and technology. During 2017, 351 research and technology transfer projects were active in UAVR. From these 15 were ERANET or JPI Actions, of which 2 coordinated by UAVR, and 96 were funded by International and European Programmes, of which 34 by ERASMUS+, 12 by FP7, 32 by Horizon 2020, 10 of them coordinated by UAVR. Among these projects are two ERC Grants, one TWINNING and one TEAMING projects.

The projects are developed under the 19 research centres hosted by UAVR which act in many different scientific areas. 52% of these research centres have been classified as very good, excellent or exceptional in the last evaluation promoted by the National Foundation for Science.

Applicants may apply to several masters (maximum 6) of University of Aveiro within the same procedure, indicating the order of preference for each one. The application process is conducted exclusively via the upload of the required documents (Photocopy of Identity Card, Residence Permit, or other identification document in the case of foreign applicants; Certificate of qualifications indicating the degree held by the applicant and final classification; etc.).

The fee for application is 20 Euros (non-refundable); this fee covers the cost of the six possible choices. Payment should be made using the means of payment available on the application platform.
